MEETING SCHEDULE     

 

·         Belgium Village Board meets on the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m.  Agenda deadline is the Tuesday prior to the second Monday at 12 noon.

·         Plan Commission /Architectural Control Board meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m.  Agenda deadline is the third Monday (or Monday week prior to meeting) by 12 noon.

·         Any special Village Board or Plan Commission Meeting must be notified 48 hours prior to the meeting.  A payment is required for special meetings.  Requests must be in writing.  Both payment and written request must be presented at the time a meeting is requested.

·         Tree Board meets on the first Monday of every other month at 6 p.m. unless a special meeting is called.  If the first Monday falls on a holiday, the meeting will be the first Tuesday of the month. 2004 CONSUMER CONFIDENCE REPORT FOR BELGIUM WATERWORKS

 

Please see the enclosed 2004 Consumer Confidence Report for Water.  If you have any questions regarding the report, please contact Daniel E. Birenbaum, DPW & Water Superintendent, at 285-7931.

UTILITY BILLING NOTE:  If a utility bill due date falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the following business day (Monday) will be considered a timely payment.

 

Moving?

Notify the Belgium Utilities at 285-7931 when you know the date of your move and your new address.  For home sales, final water bills are prorated at closings only.  The Village of Belgium does not prepare interim bills for sales.  We need also to be advised of the new tenants and/or owners prior to moves or prior owner will be billed.

 

WATER METER REGISTER ACCESS:

Access must be available to your meter pad for reading meters.  Residents should not place anything (i.e. trellis, dog house, large bushes) in front of the outside register for reading meters.  Gates and fences must be unlocked for access to meters or call for a meter pad relocation.

 

ATTENTION POOL OWNERS:

To receive a credit on your water and sewer bill for water used in pools, you must have a deduct meter installed.  No deduct meter – no credit.  Contact Village Hall at 285-7931.

BUILDING INSPECTION

All Building Permit questions are to be directed to Frank D. Mayer, Building Inspector.  He can be reached at (262) 692-9280 for inspection scheduling and questions.

 

ORDINANCE REMINDERS:       

           

Condominiums, either newly built or existing buildings being converted, must have Overlay District Zoning approved prior to creation or sale effective January 13, 2004. Condominiums that were created prior to January, 13, 2004, do not require the overlay zoning. Check with Village Hall regarding garage requirements. Contact the Clerk-Treasurer for additional information at 285-7931.

A 11:00 p.m. curfew exits for minors under the age of 16 years. THIS CURFEW WILL BE ENFORCED!  No hunting, discharging of firearms (including BB guns) or explosives is allowed within the Village of Belgium.

 

Burning is prohibited in the Village.  For questions contact Fire Chief Daniel Birenbaum at 285-7931.

 

Any “play vehicle” such as scooters, skate boards, roller blades, roller skates, roller skis or in-line-skates are NOT allowed on any public street, in the shelter or gazebo at Community Park or any public area where such activity is prohibited by posted notice or signs.

 

When riding on the sidewalk, you MUST yield the right of way to pedestrians and MUST give an appropriate audible signal before passing.

 

- Dogs are to be leashed when not on your property.

- Cats and Dogs are not allowed on private property without permission of the owner.

- Owners are responsible to pick up feces on sidewalks, street right-of-ways or other private or public property.

- Dog Licenses are required for all dogs. Violators will be cited. Call Village Hall at 285-7931 for license information.

 

 Pools over 24 inches require a pool permit from the Village Building Inspector.  You can pick up information packets and applications for a pool permit at the Village Hall.

 

Information in the packets include regulations on fencing and electrical connections. 

RECYCLING NOTES:          

 

GARBAGE AND RECYCLING COLLECTION WILL TAKE PLACE ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 6TH DUE TO THE JULY 4TH HOLIDAY.

 

RECYCLING HOURS:  The Village Recycling Center is located 620 Park Street behind the Municipal Garage.

Monday – Thursday from 12:30 – 3:30 p.m., Friday – 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.

Saturday between the hours of 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.   Saturday hours occur May 3 –  November 15.

 

DO NOT drop off the following items at the Municipal Garage:  Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners – any  appliance with freon; Tires, Shingles, Tree trunks, Household hazardous waste, i.e. paint, gasoline. 

 

Large items will no longer be picked up at your residence.  All large items – furniture, washers and dryers, etc. are to be brought to the recycling center behind the Municipal Garage, 620 Park Street during recycling hours (see above).

 

All construction debris will be treated as a large item pick-up.  DO NOT LEAVE AT CURBSIDE.  Either contract for a dumpster or bring to the recycling center.  Note that shingles will not be accepted at the Recycling Center.

 

Yard Waste (grass clippings, garden and flower debris – no plastic bags or containers) can be discarded in a dumpster behind the Municipal Garage at 620 Park Street within the Recycling Center.  Yard waste will not be picked up curbside.  DO NOT PLACE GRASS CLIPPINGS IN THE CURB OR OVER STORM SEWER GRATES.

 

Branch pickup - All branches must be by the curb by 8 a.m. on Mondays.  Do not place branches curbside over  holiday or event week-ends, i.e. Belgium Rummage Sale. Residents who choose to do this will be charged for collection.  REMEMBER to use clear bags for garbage and blue bags for recycling. 

 

PC AND COMPUTER MONITOR RECYCLING.  Computer recycling, is being offered by Belgium PC, 746 Main Street, Belgium, 285-4450. 

 

Deposit all used drain oil in the receptacle.  Do not place containers filled with oil around the container.

 

If there is a holiday that falls on Monday, garbage collection will take place on the Wednesday after.

Magazines must be separated from newspapers and recycled - not thrown into the garbage per the Wisconsin DNR.

 

VOTER REGISTRATION     

 

If you have not registered to vote at the last election, please do so as soon as possible at the Belgium Village Hall, 195 Commerce Street (262) 285-7931. A photo ID is requested and a 10-day residency period prior to an election is required.  If you current address is not on your ID, please also submit another document with your current address on it.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS!

 

§         Solicitor Permits are required for door-to-door sales.  Ask the vendor to see their permit.  Call Village Hall for confirmation of permit at 285-7931.

§         Please help keep Belgium clean!  Pick up litter and dispose of it properly.

§         Skateboards, roller blades and bicycles are not to be used on the gazebo.  Damages will be billed to parents.

§         The speed limit on village streets is 25 mph with the exception of portions of Royal Avenue and N. Middle Road (Hwy. KW).

Jay Road 4-H usually meets on the first Monday of the month at the Belgium American Legion Post 412 building at 655 Park Street.  Membership is open to children and young adults from 1st grade though senior high school. The club is in need of project leaders. Everyone is welcome to participate. Contact Sandy Hubing at 285-3528 for further details.

GREEN HEART 5K  RUN/WALK    

 

The Green Heart 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, August 13th at 8:00 a.m. beginning in Community Park.  The run/walk is a 5-kilometer course that encircles our picturesque village.  It is held in conjunction with Luxembourg Fest.  Proceeds from the run/walk benefit the T-Baum Foundation, an organization formed in memory of Belgium native Tyler Birenbaum, who died from a brain tumor at the age of 16.  The foundation awards “dream grants” to adults ages 19 through 60 who are dealing with a life-threatening illness.  Early registration deadline is July 18th.  A registration form is included with this newsletter.     For more information, call Jeff at (262) 285-4112, or visit the St. Mark Lutheran Church’s website at www.stmarkbelgium.org.

 

2005 LUXEMBOURG FEST

 

Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the Luxembourg Fest weekend. 

 

On Saturday, August 13th starting at 8:00 a.m. the Green Heart 5K Run/Walk will take place (see information above/enclosed) followed by an Antique Tractor Parade along Main Street at 2 p.m. Following these events, music and food will be available at Community Park.

 

On Sunday, August 14th, Duke Richard Uselding and his wife Duchess Patricia (Wundrock) Uselding will be the honored couple for this year’s event.  Honored families for this year are:

Barnich, Bielefeld, Cloos, Faber, Feider, Gantner, Green-Grun, Hummel, Jones, Kirst, Kleckner, Nesser, Nothem, Possley, Ries, Risch, Robert, Schinker, Schuman, Spies, Stemper, Uselding.

 

A 10:45 a.m. Pageant starts the festivities at Community park followed by Catholic Mass at 11:00 a.m. music, food, exhibits and fellowship until 6:00 p.m.  Hope to see you there!  For additional information contact Richard at 285-3214 or Beatrice at 285-3152.

 

American Legion Post #412 Corn Roast,  Brat Fry, and Auction will be held on Sunday, August 28th. The Legion Auction Committee is accepting items for the picnic and auction. Contact Mel Hubing at 285-3528.  Come join us for games, food, corn and fun!

 

BLOODMOBILE

A ring was found in the Village of Belgium.  Please call the Ozaukee County Sheriff Department at 262-284-7172 in order to identify and claim the ring.  If it is not claimed it will be auctioned off.

ή     Give an audible signal when passing other bicyclists or pedestrians.

ή     Obey all traffic signs and signals that apply to the roadway running parallel and adjacent to a bike path or sidewalk.

ή     Ride slowly and observe pedestrian laws when riding in a crosswalk.

ή     Have a red reflector at least 2 inches in diameter mounted on the back of the bike.

Trustee Katherine C. Karshna resigned June 22, 2005, due to moving to Florida. We will all miss Kathy as she served the Village of Belgium well. If you are interested in serving her unexpired term, please contact Lila M. Mueller, CMC, Village Clerk-Treasurer at the Belgium Village Hall.
