Did you know…that no grass clippings are allowed in landfills after 1992. Mulching leaves clippings on your lawn all season and is equivalent to one fertilizer application. Why mulch? 1) Improves the fertility and health of your soil. 2) Saves water by helping the soil hold moisture and reducing water runoff. 3) Benefits the environment by recycling valuable organic resources and extending the lives of our landfills. 4) Saves money by eliminating the need for expensive bags. 5) Saves time with no clippings to bag or haul to our Recycling Center.

Branch pickup will start up again on Monday mornings starting April 28th. All branches must by the curb by 9 a.m. on Mondays. Point branch trunk ends towards the curb. Do not place branches curbside over holiday or event week-ends, i.e. Belgium Rummage Sale. Residents who choose to do this will be charged for collection.

FROM BELGIUM TO BELGIUM…

Even though war exists and our countries governments do not have the same opinions, our Belgian friendships will not be forgotten.

The Belgium, Wisconsin area’s roots are from the Luxembourg Province of Belgium. Jean Weyker, our first resident in the Belgium area, is from this region.

BLUE STAR BANNER PROGRAM:

The Belgium Memorial Post 412 of the American Legion takes great pride in presenting households a Blue Star Banner in honor of a member serving in the armed forces in defense of our country in "American’s War on Terrorism".

The history of the Banner program dates back to World War I when a gold star banner was presented to the mother of a son or to the wife of a husband killed in that war.

The idea was revived in World War II and also along with it a Blue Star Banner in honor of a son or daughter ‘gone off to war’.

It has come back a third time now to be awarded to a household in honor of a family member serving in defense of our country. It is to be displayed in a front window of that home as a badge of honor and testimony of its patriotism to the community, state and nation.

PRAY FOR AREA ACTIVE SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN:

Please keep the following service men and women in prayer to protect and keep them safe during this war:

Known residents in active service from the Village of Belgium include Claudette Neuser (wife of James Neuser), Steve Buss (husband of Mellissa Buss), Donald Tuhy (husband of Eileen Tuhy)., Tracy Stehula.

Known residents in active service from the Town of Belgium include Andrew Watry (son of Chris & Barb Watry), Mark Reddy (husband of Melisa Schimberg; son-in-law of Dave & Mary Schimberg).

Any family member with service member(s) serving our country are asked to call Melvin Hubing at 285-3528. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

MEMORIAL DAY

A Christian mass will take place for all service personnel living and deceased on May 26th at 7:30 a.m. at St. Mary Church – Lake Church. Later that morning, a parade will take place starting at 10:30 a.m. from Liberty Street to Community Park. The Cedar Grove-Belgium Band will perform.

After the parade a Memorial Day Program will take place at Community Park followed by food and refreshments. The Belgium Memorial Post #412 is asking all organizations to join the parade. Kids can bring bicycles or walk. Everyone welcome!
